@Marco I know what your mean. In todays economy its tough to find a career that pays good enough to live on and is consistent. I have found that if you just work hard and are consistent you can go places . Look at the author of this page , they are clearly a hard worker and have just been consistent over time and are now enjoying at least what would appear as somewhat of a success. But, whatever you do, do NOT under ANY circumstances talk to my parrot!” When the repairman arrived at Mrs. Agathe’s apartment the next day, he discovered the biggest and meanest looking Doberman he had ever seen. But just as she had said, the dog simply laid there on the carpet, watching the repairman go about his business. However, the whole time the parrot drove him nuts with his incessant cursing, yelling and name-calling. Finally the repairman couldn’t contain himself any longer and yelled, “Shut up, you stupid ugly bird!” To which the parrot replied, “Get him, Spike!”

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

I have been blogging since 2007. For years I made a few bucks here and there with Adsense and some affiliate sells, but I wasn't making enough to quit the day job for sure. The issue is that if someone sends me an email, then it adds their signature at the bottom.

If I reply it then adds my signature all the eay at the bottom – under thier original email

well, to be more exactly you should add that adprep/adprep32 should be startet on the old server.

and furthermore you should say that in the beginning the dns server on the new servers network connection should point to the old dns server.
but when is the best time in your accurate steps to switch the pointed dns server in the network connection to the new dns server? because that’s a problem and if i read through all that posts it is exactly what is missing: how to set dns in nw connection and when to change.

@dan: that’s exactly the problem which causes your problem i think/know.

Thanks for the right directions.

Just one thing here: move-mailbox is no longer available… You have to use new-moverequest to move the system mailboxes and you do not use -Arbitration with this cmdlet. Just ignore it.

VERY IMPORTANT!

If you are migrating to a 2008 R2 server (x64 only), the proper adprep commands are:

[drive]:\support\adprep32 /forestprep
[drive]:\support\adprep32 /domainprep

These are found on and run from the 2008 R2 disk.

Everything seems to work great, except that when I try to demote the old 2003 server I get a message saying that it is the last domain controller, no other AD DC’s can be contacted. Any suggestions?

Hello Mark, I am very impressed with this tutorial, this is a fantastic opportunity!

I would really like to use it and go ahead but I would have a few questions beforehands, if you will

1 – I currently have 2 DC/DNS servers both running with Windows 2000 : Can we replace those 2 with a single/unique DC/DNS 2008 Server ?

2 – Does this tutorial apply to a 2000 domain ?

3 – Anything you may find useful

Hi There,

I was trying to remove my first mailbox server and kept getting the “Error: This mailbox database contains one or more mailboxes…”.
I ran the “Get-Mailbox -Database DB01 -Arbitration | ft -wrap -auto” command however it didn’t return any arbitration mailboxes! Consequently I wasn’t able to uninstall exchange.

The only way I was able to remove the server was to use ADSIedit and manually remove the server and database from AD. I know this isn’t a supported method for removing an exchange server but it worked like a treat for me.

I was wondering if anyone else had come across this issue?

I changed the the dns server in dhcp options and worked perfect
I will demote the server 2003 today.

Thank you for the article. You got me going the right direction. A couple of additions for you:

1. You can check the status of the move request by running: Get-MoveRequest -SourceDatabase “Database Name”. Make sure that all move requests have a status of Completed.

2. Before you can actually remove the database you will have to remove the Move Requests. To do this MAKE SURE that the requests have completed then run the following: Get-MoveRequest -SourceDatabase “Database Name” | Remove-MoveRequest.

3. You should now be able to remove the database from the Management Shell. Don’t forget to go to the server in question and delete the old database files that are located in the file structure.

are you using DHCP to set your DNS servers? If so, you’ve to change the DNS settings in your DHCP scopes. Can you check this, hopefully this is the solution for you!
